Meet the ICVS Team
The Life and Health Sciences Research Institute (ICVS) was created in 2003 to improve human health through excellent research in health sciences, medical innovation and the provision of specialized services. ICVS is an R&D Unit incorporated in the School of Medicine (EM) - the University of Minho, strategically located in the North region of Portugal within an emerging Cluster of Biomedical Science and Technology, being organized around four interdisciplinary research domains: Microbiology and Infection, Neurosciences, Surgical Sciences, and Population Health.
As part of Project Sentinel, the ICVS team is focused on the evaluation of the safety and performance of the biocompatible and functional biosensor, using animal models and relevant clinical samples. The injectable biosensor developed under the scope of Project Sentinel will potentially increase current predictive rates while contributing to a more cost-effective and accessible diagnosis, treatment and follow-up for prostate cancer patients.
The Team is composed of Fátima Baltazar, Rui M. Reis, Olga Martinho, Adriana Mendes, Jorge Correia-Pinto, Adhemar Longatto and Gil Castro who have background and expertise in cancer biomarkers, #prostate cancer and in vivo models to validate the application of the biosensor in the clinical context.
